Hey everyone—eating enough chicken lately?
KFC is one of my favorite fast-food chains, and Japan often releases exclusive menu items. This time, they’ve introduced a limited-edition twist on their Japanese-Style Chicken Cutlet Sandwich: the Authentic Yuzu Shichimi version. Of course, I had to try it.

(Wafu = Japanese style)
(You can read my review of the original Japanese-Style Chicken Cutlet Burger here.)

Here’s what it looks like. From the outside, the shredded cabbage and the sweet-savory sauce coating the cutlet seem identical to the regular version.
The difference lies in the sauce drizzled on top. The original uses a mayonnaise-based sauce, but this limited-edition version features a mayo base infused with yuzu citrus and shichimi chili pepper.
What Is Yuzu Shichimi?

Yuzu Shichimi is a Japanese spice blend that combines yuzu citrus peel with shichimi togarashi, a traditional seven-spice mix.
Shichimi typically includes chili peppers, roasted sesame seeds, sansho pepper, dried orange peel, seaweed, and other aromatic spices.
When blended with yuzu, it creates a seasoning that is both citrusy and spicy, offering a refreshing aroma followed by a gentle but noticeable heat.
Yuzu Shichimi is commonly sprinkled on noodles, soups, grilled meats, and even snacks in Japan, and it adds a unique kick that balances brightness and warmth.
Trying It

At first bite, the refreshing aroma of yuzu really comes through. As for the shichimi, I thought it wasn’t very spicy at first, but the heat slowly built up as I kept eating—stronger than I expected!
I underestimated it a little. The shichimi kick is definitely there. It might be too spicy for small kids, but for someone like me who isn’t great with spicy foods, it was still manageable.
The lightly sweet cutlet combined with the fragrant, peppery sauce makes this a delicious variation.
Final Thoughts

The Japanese-Style Chicken Cutlet Burger – Authentic Yuzu Shichimi offers a refreshing citrus flavor and a pleasant spicy accent.
That said, if I had to choose between this and the original version, I still prefer the classic. Sometimes, simple is best.
However, if you love spicy food or regularly enjoy shichimi seasoning, this one is absolutely worth trying.
Since it’s a limited item and will end once supplies run out, grab it while you can!
